This session increases understanding of personal care in health and social care.

The course explains how to provide personal care safely and hygienically, including handwashing, use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and disposal of waste.

It also outlines good practice in supporting an individual in various aspects of their personal care and hygiene including washing, dental care and going to the toilet.

Through this course, candidates will:

  • Identify good practice when providing baths and showers for the individual service user.

  • Identify good practice when supporting an individual with mouth, denture, hair, feet and nail care.

  • Learn safety rules and standard precautions associated with providing care.

  • Learn about recording and reporting, and why it is important.
